Naufal is a DPhil student in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, and a member of the Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering Group and the Oosterbeek Lab. His research focuses on the corrosion fatigue behaviour of additively manufactured magnesium-based metamaterials for bioresorbable load-bearing medical implants.
His work explores the interaction between mechanical loading and biodegradation in magnesium lattice structures. This includes the development of a custom corrosion fatigue testing rig, alongside experimental characterisation and modelling, to better understand and control the performance and lifetime of these metamaterials.
Naufal holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung and an MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London. At Imperial, his research focused on expandable lattice structures for bone fixation. Prior to joining Oxford, he worked as a research assistant at ITB, where he was involved in computational modelling of magnesium biodegradation.
